For dinner I had fresh, moist, grilled chicken with sides which I carried off to my room and ate comfortably. When I came back down from dinner I enjoyed a genuine Hula group, comprised of ladies that sang and danced very well. Then it was time to do some serious shopping for my girls. I was able to buy a colorful shell necklace for my youngest daughter and gained some ideas for her sister. Every booth had a sponsoring group and all the groups I spoke to were very gracious and hospitable.
While I am not one who usually enjoys crowds, the good feeling Aloha of this night made the experience really pleasant. I just happened to be on the island in September for the Aloha Festival. Several blocks of Kalakaua Avenue along the beach are closed to vehicles for an evening of celebration. The Royal family makes their way down the street at the beginning of the festival around 7pm. There were 3 stages set up along the street for dancers and singers.
Several local restaurants have food tents along the street. A couple of local groups have fund raisers so make sure to stop in and purchase something to help out the locals. This year is the 75th Anniversary of Aloha Festivals, and while the major live events have been cancelled again due to the coronavirus pandemic, those involved still take immense pride in the history of the celebration.
Aloha Festivals, last year, was a shadow of itself, because of the global pandemic. This year's stately coronation in the regal courtyard of the Royal Hawaiian commemorates the 75th anniversary of Aloha Festivals.
